Dual Diagnosis Adult Treatment Program

We will not be taking any interns this year in our Dual Diagnosis Program. Please check next year. 

POPULATION WE SERVE

•             We serve dually diagnosed adults who primarily live in the South Bay, Service Area 8

•             Our clients range in age from 21-65 years old.

•             Many clients are low income

•             Our clients are men and women from a variety of ethnic groups.

•             They are referred through multiple sources such as Adult Outpatient Psychiatry’s access to care team, self-referred, and outside programs in the community.

•             Dual Diagnosed patients are seen for the treatment of mood disorders, personality disorders, and psychotic disorders when combined with chemical dependency problems.

The Dual Diagnosis Treatment Program at Harbor UCLA is a comprehensive integrated treatment program that provides care for patients including empirically based individual and group therapy, motivational interventions, clinical case management, assessments, medication monitoring, psychosocial interventions, psychoeducation and social support.

TRAININGS OFFERED 

As an intern at Dual Diagnosis Treatment Program you may be offered training in the following:

•             Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)

•             CBT for Anxiety and Depression

•             Various Mental Health Topics at In-service Trainings

•             DMH Documentation

•             Diagnostic Assessment: DSM 5

SUPERVISION

You will participate in:

•             Weekly individual supervision

•             Bi-weekly group supervision

•             Informal consultation during weekly  multidisciplinary team meetings

CASELOAD

•             At least 10 direct service hours per week providing individual treatment and facilitating groups

•             Complete weekly initial intakes with new clients and present in multidisciplinary team meetings

 WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN AN INTERN

•             Someone interested in working with patients with mental health & chemical dependency issues

•             A student who is interested in working in a community mental health setting with low income or disadvantaged population.

•             A student who likes clinical work

•             A student who is an independent learner but knows when to seek assistance from a supervisor

•             A student who is available 20 hours per week on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays

•             A student who is willing to dedicate time outside of internship as needed to learn interventions that might be helpful to a client

•             A student who is willing to work with an interdisciplinary team and advocate for clients as needed
